How it works
- 1
Send a file
Choose a file or drop it onto the Send tab. Pick an expiry, choose whether it can open only once, then select Get a link to encrypt and upload it.
- 2
Make the handoff
Copy the full share link for direct access, or send the 32-character code. The full link includes the key, so anyone who has it can open the file. An optional recipient email leaves the key out; share the code separately.
- 3
Open and download
Choose Open a file, paste the code or share link and select Find file. Check the filename, then select Open file to decrypt it in your browser. You can preview supported formats and download a copy.
Common questions
Is Oveile really end-to-end encrypted?
Yes. Encryption happens in your browser with the Web Crypto API before any upload. We receive only ciphertext and a hash that authorises downloads. Without the access code, the file is noise.
What is in the access code?
32 characters: the first 8 identify the sealed file, the remaining 24 are 120 bits of random key material. Lowercase letters and the easily confused I, L, O and U are normalised, so a code is safe to read aloud.
What is the difference between the link and the code?
The full share link contains the key after # and can open the file directly. The 32-character code provides the same access from the Open tab. Anyone holding either can open the file. Optional recipient emails omit the key, so you can send the code through a separate trusted channel.
How long are documents kept?
A share stops being available after your chosen expiry: one hour, 24 hours or seven days. Expired files are removed during regular cleanup. With Open only once enabled, the stored file is deleted after its first download.
Can I delete a document early?
Yes. After sharing you get a revoke button, and if you asked for a receipt by email, it contains a link to revoke as well.
What do the confirmation emails contain?
A receipt carries the document's identifier and expiry. A recipient notification carries the link without the key. An opened notice tells you when the document was first unveiled. None of them ever include the access code.
Which file types and sizes are supported?
Any file up to 100 MB. Images, PDFs, video, audio and text preview directly in the browser after decryption; everything else downloads.
Where is Oveile hosted?
On servers in London, United Kingdom. Because files are encrypted before they arrive, location matters less than it does elsewhere — but we still keep it close.
